The anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which offers a masterful ending, could have had a very different ending, reveals animation studio Trigger.

Two more endings were considered for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
On July 15, several members of Trigger Studio, the creators of the anime, met Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, was present at the Japan Expo in Paris. On the Yuzu stage: Producer and Creative Supervisor Saya Elder, Narrative Animation Director Bartosz Sztybor, Animation Producer Naoko Tsutsumi and designers Characters Yoh Yoshinari held a round table returning to the end of the anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
They then reveal that two more endings were planned: one where Lucie becomes happy and pregnant, and the other where David survives and becomes a mercenary. Ultimately, Trigger opted for a much more tragic ending, with the main character of the series losing his life. We can be sure that the studio made the right choice as this ending certainly adds to the impression it made Cyberpunk: Edgerunners in the minds of viewers.
A somewhat special “sequel” to the anime?
