The Sims 4 has been around for several years now, but an announcement of the next part is still missing. However, when the time comes, the Sims 5 will probably also have some online features to offer.

Maxis has not yet officially announced The Sims 5, but slowly but surely the next sequel to the success series seems to be casting its shadow. On the occasion of the current annual report, EA boss Andrew Wilson has now also commented on the franchise and has confirmed something interesting.
Accordingly, the next Sims title could apparently offer some social online features that were once intended in the meanwhile stamped-out MMO The Sims Online. The game was on the market from 2002 to 2008 before it was discontinued. Wilson now said that some of the features used there will be part of the Sims experience "in the years to come".
"Maxis continues to think about The Sims for a new generation, including comprehensive platforms and a cloud in the form of a neighborly world […] This idea of social interactions and competitions were like the things that actually existed many many years ago The Sims Online gave – and they will be part of the Sims experience in the years ahead, "said Wilson, who also emphasizes that you want to stay true to the usual franchise features.
Regarding the future vision of the brand one is "very excited" and one thinks that the title will offer "enormous growth opportunities" in the next years.
The Sims 4 was released in 2014 and has received eight expansions since then; the official announcement of The Sims 5 is still pending. The franchise is now celebrating its 20th anniversary next week.
