Frogwares

has surprise-released The Sinking City Remastereda new version of the 2019 horror title—completely free for those who already own the original game.

A Lovecraftian Horror Returns with Major Upgrades

The remastered edition has just launched digitally on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC as a “shadow drop,”

despite having been previously announced back in March
.

However, the Ukrainian studio Frogwares never revealed a release date—now we know why.

The important thing is: the remaster is already available for download.

The Sinking City Remastered is a reworked version of the original game, which first launched in 2019 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC (and later on Nintendo Switch).

The story transports players to the mysterious town of Oakmont, Massachusetts, in a chilling blend of suspense, horror, and sci-fi.

It’s essentially a Lovecraftian tale brought to life in video game form—now enhanced with modern visuals and performance.

The best part? Anyone who already owns The Sinking City on PC, PlayStation, or Xbox can upgrade to the remastered edition for free. The new version has been rebuilt using Unreal Engine 5 (the original used Unreal Engine 4).

4K Graphics and Technical Enhancements

The Sinking City Remastered is a thriller set in a remote Massachusetts town plagued by mysterious floods. Eldritch Gods may be involved—but that’s for players to uncover themselves.

You play as Charles W. Reed, a war veteran turned investigator, exploring a dangerous open world filled with puzzles, clues, and lurking horrors.

Thanks to Unreal Engine 5, the remaster brings notable technical improvements, including brand-new locations, enhanced 4K textures, and improved reflections.

“We’re planning big things for The Sinking City IP, starting with the sequel and more beyond,” said Sergiy Oganesyan, Publishing Director at Frogwares.

“Given the well-known issues we had with the original, it’s incredible to reach this positive milestone—and to do it entirely on our own terms.”

“Making it free for all our fans is our way of giving back to those who’ve supported us through the good and the bad.”

Gameplay Enhancements and PC Features

The remastered version also includes gameplay tweaks and quality-of-life improvementsmaking mechanics more accessible. PC players will benefit from:

  • DLSS, FSR, and TSR support
  • Photo modea brand-new addition
  • Better optimization and performance

Frogwares has made clear that they want to expand The Sinking City

franchise, and this remaster is just the first step. The Sinking City 2

is already in development, and its Kickstarter campaign surpassed its funding goal by a massive 450%.
