When we find him in that cell at the end of the series, he’s preparing to be beheaded, and he wants that too. He’s done. His going to the Wall is the greatest gift you can give him, but it’s also the greatest curse. He has to go back there with all that stuff and spend his life thinking about how he killed Dany, how Ygritte died in his arms and how he hung Olly. He has to live his life with all his trauma, and it’s… it’s interesting. I think when we left him at the end of Game of Thrones we expected him to draw a little smile to show everything was fine. But he is not well.
