Developed with the ambition to take a step forward in terms of horror in the world of video games, The Callisto Protocol didn’t necessarily convince everyone. Building on the solid foundations of the first Dead Space, the app avoids directly cloning its predecessor thanks to the intense hand-to-hand combat, which, however, is not as precise as we would have liked. Despite a certain lack of boldness, Striking Distance has managed to develop a rousing space mountain bloodeven if the proposed journey turns out to be as imperfect as it is classic.
If the Callisto Protocol is often compared to Dead Space, it is no coincidence. The two software programs have several similarities, starting with the same creator, Glen Schofield, but also an identical genre, a very similar SF universe and of course humanoid creatures that could be interchangeable. Story-wise, The Callisto Protocol takes place in the year 2320. On Jupiter’s dead moon Callisto there is a fortress that harbors a terrible threat. To the rhythm of the screams, the inmates mutate into hideous monsters thirsting for blood. To survive, Jacob, the game’s hero, must uncover both the secrets of Black Iron’s dark corridors and the skin of the creatures that roam the environment.

Here, the player faces an edgy top-down roguelite, with a very colorful art direction. The game is scheduled for release on Halloween, October 31, 2024, for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
