The fine line between tradition and innovation: too much old frightens the young and too much new angers the old. An eternal dilemma. It seems to be easier for some indie developers to read their wishes from the eyes of the players.
Two action role-playing games that don’t fit into old categories are shaking up the list of Steam bestsellers this week. Both venture off the beaten path. We’ll show you what’s going on.

With one click to the highlights:
Hades 2

Hades 2 – The new early access trailer gets you in the mood for battles with gods and titans
Hades was a mega hit, game of the year and one of the most successful roguelites ever. And in action it works like a Diablo, while the regulations are based on other hits like Dead Cells or The Binding of Isaac. This is extremely well received.
So it’s no wonder that Hades 2 is already making its mark on Steam in Early Access. Second place in the weekly bestsellers indicates a very successful release for developer Supergiant Games.

V Rising

V Rising – You can now become a vampire lord in the dark action role-playing game
Another new recipe for the genre: V Rising relies on the perspective and gameplay loop of an ARPG, but builds a survival game around it with base building, crafting and boss hunting in the style of a Valheim. The result was already impressive in early access.
The full release was now imminent and it is apparently paying off once again for the indie developer. Stunlock Studios can look forward to placing 5th in the Steam Top 10, which marks numerous sales for the release of the full version.
We also examined V Rising more closely in the test. You can read our verdict here:
