Spoiler alert!
This article contains spoilers for The Boys – Season 4.
The Boys always surprises its fans with unexpected twists and exciting character developments.
But even off-screen, the series delivers some surprises – and the latest concerns the second Black Noir and Nathan Mitchell, who has played the mysterious superhero since season 3.
What many don’t know: Mitchell and his character have a surprising thing in common.
The real background behind Black Noire’s greatest weakness
In the fourth season of The Boys, Black Noir makes a surprise return, despite being brutally murdered by Homelander in the previous season.
The solution to this puzzle is relatively simple: The original wearer of the suit died, but a new character took over the suit from Black Noir, leading to the birth of Black Noir II.
The successor also has superhuman abilities – in the current episode 7, for example, he showed that he can fly. But he also has a weakness: the new Black Noir suffers from narcolepsy.
His illness is so severe that he falls asleep while standing during a fight with Billy Butcher (Karl Urban).
But the sleep disorder, which has already caused some funny moments in the current season, is not simply plucked out of thin air.

The Boys: In the new trailer for season 4, even chickens and sheep have superpowers… Wait, what?
In an interview with the podcast Happy Sad Confused His co-stars Antony Starr (Homelander) and Chace Crawford (The Deep) revealed that Mitchell actually often fell asleep on set.
Crawford initially said:
We’re in scenes and he literally falls asleep.
Starr confirms this and adds a little anecdote from the filming:
He really does fall asleep. There is a scene where it says: Is Noir sleeping?
and he wakes up and says: I am narcoleptic
was [Mitchell] is in real life. He fell asleep at the table in this costume.
Black Noir star confirms his naps
Mitchell himself confirmed these anecdotes in a Interview with TV Insider and said that his friends often laughed about how he would fall asleep on the couch at parties in high school:
That’s what I’ve done my whole life, taking a nap here and there.
The fact that his illness is now being packaged in funny scenes does not bother him. Instead, he has a lot of praise for the series’ scriptwriters, who managed to integrate the unique aspects of their actors into the characters:
The writers are so great. They see us and take unique parts of our personalities and put them into the roles in really fun and creative ways. It’s a cool character trait and I’m glad we get to explore it.
