The Suicide Squad game continues to have problems and despite the new season, nothing seems to be going well, especially in terms of player viewership.
The third season of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was released but failed to really grab the attention of players. The game, developed by Rocksteady, continues to struggle to attract new users or bring back old ones. Despite the additions of this new season, the initial enthusiasm seems to have finally worn off.
The end for Suicide Squad soon?
This season brings players back to Gotham, but in a completely revamped version. The story takes place in an alternate reality where the fight against Brainiac took place in Gotham rather than Metropolis. The city lies in ruins, with streams of lava flowing through it, and has been abandoned by Brainiac himself. This apocalyptic setting is intended to create a new dark and intense atmosphere, very different from the one DC fans know.
A new character is also added: Zoe Lawton, aka Lawless, Deadshot’s daughter. This new protagonist brings innovation with his own fighting style. Additionally, new equipment and bug fixes have been added to improve the game.
Despite these efforts, the players did not return. According to SteamDB data, the game only peaked at 248 players within 24 hours of the season’s launch. Currently only 100 players were online. Disappointing numbers, especially for a franchise as expected Suicide Squad.
This clearly shows that this season’s additions were not enough to give the game a boost. This lack of interest in the new installment is no surprise, as the game has not been a resounding success since its release.
Since its introduction Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League accumulated difficulties. In February 2024, Warner Bros. Discovery had already admitted that the game had failed to meet expectations, resulting in an estimated financial loss of $200 million. Several reasons have been cited to explain this failure: a constantly revised creative direction, a shift toward a game genre that wasn’t suitable, and a culture of perfectionism that slowed production.
