In a few days or on February 24th, Kerbal Space Program 2 will appear in Early Access. Unfortunately, the anticipation is marred by the leaked system requirements: If you want to play Kerbal Space Program 2 without restrictions, you need a very fast PC.
You can find out how much we like the game so far in the following preview. So far we haven’t been able to play it on our own computers, instead we used PCs with a very fast Geforce RTX 4080, AMD’s Ryzen 9 7900X and 32.0 GB of RAM.

High recommended requirements
The Twitter-Nutzer Rocketology leaked the system requirements for Kerbal Space Program 2. You can find the exact details in the table below. Meanwhile, the developers have the information in Tweets like this confirmed and they have now been published on Steam.
At first glance, it is immediately clear that Kerbal Space Program 2 requires at least graphics cards of the last or penultimate generation:
Hardware | Minimum | Recommended |
---|---|---|
CPU | Core i5 6400 @ 2,7 GHz Athlon X4 845 @ 3,5 GHz |
Core i5 11500 @ 2,7 GHz Ryzen 5 3600 @ 3,6 GHz |
GPU | Geforce GTX 1070 Ti (8GB) Geforce RTX 2060 (6GB) Radeon 5600XT (6GB) |
Geforce RTX 3080 Radeon RX 6800 XT |
RAM | 12.0 GB | 16.0 GB |
DISK | 45 GB | 60 GB |
As a minimum, an RTX 2060 and an RX 5600 XT are already quite high. It gets even more challenging with the recommended hardware: you need an RTX 3080 or an RX 6800 XT, two of the most expensive graphics cards of the last generation.
In contrast, the demands on the CPU are a bit more moderate, especially with regard to the minimum desired processor. A slow Athlon CPU should also be sufficient.
Players consider staying with the predecessor
Player reactions to the leaked system requirements have been mixed on Twitter and Reddit. Some are happy that their cutting-edge gaming PCs, which they only recently bought, are finally being maxed out.
Others regret the high system requirements, which might be too high for many gaming PCs. Due to the high system requirements, some players may have to consider whether they want to upgrade their PC for Kerbal Space Program 2 or rather stick with the predecessor.
But there is still hope: At least according to the developer squad behind Kerbal Space Program 2, the game should be optimized during Early Access. If your PC doesn’t currently meet the minimum specs, it’s worth checking out Kerbal Space Program 2 once the game has spent a few months in Early Access.
If you’re looking to upgrade your PC for Kerbal Space Program 2, it might be worth waiting for a sale on previous generation GPUs. You can find out more about this in this article: Unfortunately, the latest graphics card sale shows twice how bad the situation is.
What do you think of the system requirements of Kerbal Space Program 2? Did you expect the RTX 2060 to only meet minimum requirements three years after appearing in the game? And are you surprised that the game even recommends an RTX 3080 or an RX 6800 XT? Write your opinion about it in the comments.
