When your experience at Hogwarts Legacy is on track to exceed 100 hours, you conclude that you have seen and enjoyed enough to start thinking about all those details that could be more worked… but that Avalanche Software could not/wanted to potentiate. In other words: you begin to see the seams of the video game.
I have already told you many things that we would like to see in Hogwarts Legacy: expansions of different sections such as Quidditch and herbology, for example, a karma system to give depth to the world… In this publication I will deal with another topic that you have probably thought about (or not): the wands and why your personalization has no impact on the experience.
Hogwarts Legacy wands are pure facade
By now it will be clear that Hogwarts Legacy stays on the surface of many things (maybe too many?) Despite being the dream of any Harry Potter fan. It is a wonderful and very beautiful experience. However, it is far from perfect.
the wands of Hogwarts Legacy y Harry Potter They play a very important role: they channel the magic of wizards and witches correctly. They have some level of will or ability to choose (roughly similar to lightsabers in Star Wars) and having both their acceptance and synchronicity improves control of magic. The wand thing is complex, but it works roughly this way.
At the beginning of Hogwarts Legacy we use a borrowed wand, which tend to have a fairly forgiving core. Later, we go to Ollivander’s shop in Hogsmeade to find a custom wand for us. And never better said! After several tries, Ollivander finds our wand: he shows us a box and allows us to customize it completely.
The customization of the Wands covers several aspects: type of wood (shape and color), length, rigidity y core (dragon, unicorn or phoenix). Although I think it’s wonderful to be able to craft my wand, which could use more customization, I can’t help but think about what wasted that this whole system is.
Once again, choosing at Hogwarts Legacy has zero impact
I’ve had quite a bit of time to ponder a wand system and have imagined what the ideal system would look like based on the Leviathan Ax of God of War and other games like Destiny 2 and The Division 2. Remember that Hogwarts Legacy is an ARPG (action role-playing game), so it is expected to have elements like the one I describe below. I don’t think I’m proposing crazy.
Maintaining the current structure, Hogwarts Legacy could have a wand system based on stats and levels. You create a wand with certain characteristics, which increase as you increase your character level. And it would make sense regarding the lore, since the wizard and the wand They are connectedThey feed back and learn from each other. That being said, I imagine it like this:
- Wood Type: Grants base stat points such as Attack (General), Defense, Ancient Magic Power, Resistance to Ailing Effects, Critical Chance, Beast Damage, Wizard Damage, Light Magic Regeneration, Dark Magic Regeneration, etc For example: +5 defense. With each level this number increases proportionally up to a maximum. It also changes the type of wood, shape and color.
- wand length: the distance-damage relationship is established. The longer it is, the further your spells go (very useful for puzzles and ranged combat) and the damage is reduced. The shorter, the damage increases and the distance is reduced. There are enough lengths to calibrate the wand to taste.
- Rigidity: blocking time. The more flexible, the longer the window to block enemies and parry, but you return less damage and the Faint lasts less. The stiffer, the less time to block and parry, but you return more damage and the Desmaius lasts longer. It could be measured in small percentages that increase with levels.
- Core: Determines the type of magic related to the wand. The dragon core could be related to dark magic, the phoenix core to light magic, and the unicorn core being the middle ground. If you use kindred magic (with corresponding skill tree upgrades), you will be more effective in combat. Increases the damage, resistance, and regeneration of said magic. For example: Dragon would boost Unforgivable Curses and Red Spells, while Phoenix would boost Purple and Yellow.
Not all types of wood, lengths, and stiffness would be available out of the box. Some would require more level and gold. As for the changes, I am clear that it would allow customize the wand at any time, but not free. Ollivander would require a certain amount of materials (or a very rare one) and gold to make mods. Each change should require more materials and money.
I understand that making such a system is expensive and that the skill tree would have to be in tune with the wand system, but I think Hogwarts Legacy it would have much more depth when it comes to builds or character builds. In addition, the players would feel the wand as a tool as fundamental and decisive as they paint.
If we add to the equation the pieces of equipment, its improvements and the runes to enhance specific spells, the players could do real barbarities within the game. Each character build would feel more unique and satisfyingsince developing its full potential would require much more effort.
Another much simpler system is found in the slot and rune systems of God of War, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and many more. In fact, Hogwarts Legacy already has rune slots in its loadouts.
The wand could have a upgrade system and/or rune slots Similar to the flying broom. We’d unlock slots, runes, and upgrades by leveling up, completing battle challenges, and taking down Notorious Enemies, for example. Ollivander would be in charge of improving the wand in exchange for materials and gold
What do you think of these wand systems? Do you think it would be a good addition to Hogwarts Legacy? How would you improve it to make it perfect? Do you think Avalanche Software will take note for a possible Hogwarts Legacy 2? I read you in comments.
