Friends of the hearty blast, take note: The recent shooter fair Realms Deep 2021 had all sorts of games to offer – some of them were already known, others were announced at the fair.
For many years, first-person shooters have been moving further and further away from their roots from the 90s. Instead of fast, uncomplicated shootouts in linearly designed levels, the games became more and more realistic and complex, relocating the events to modern war or end-of-time scenarios with sometimes huge open worlds.
Fans of classic shooters can cheer: Most of the Realms Deep shooters could hardly be simpler, but at the same time more colorful and crazy. If you just want to shut down your brain and train your index finger on the mouse, you should definitely find it.
We have selected the six weirdest shooters at the fair for you and will introduce them to you in more detail below.

Graven – Preview video of the unofficial witch 3
In Graven you slip into the role of a magical priest who opposes dark forces in a medieval scenario. Visually, the game exudes the finest retro feeling and could have appeared twenty years ago.
The gameplay is a mix of magic, shooting and slamming. You can manipulate the environment with your magical sayings – but impatient natures simply use crossbows or maces.
The world is designed to be relatively open. On your journey you not only have to kill enemies, but also solve puzzles and complete quests for NPCs. As a result, you level up like in a role-playing game and receive new weapons and spells.
Graven is currently still in Early Access:
Cultic
Developer: Jasozz Games | Release: Not known | Price: Not known

At the beginning of Cultic your character dies. Game over.
Or not? A short time after your death you wake up in a gloomy pixel environment and set your goal to put an end to a nasty cult that is responsible for your premature death. You attack the robes with weapons and dynamite.
The trailer already makes it clear: the pace of the game is high, there is hardly any time to breathe. If it should get a little quieter, you can set your enemies wonderfully nasty traps. No matter which procedure you choose: There is plenty of pixel blood flowing!
Neon Beasts
Developer: Sean Ryan | Release: Not known | Price: Not known

One of the real new announcements of Realms Deep 2021. If you are allergic to bright neon colors, you should scroll on at this point. Because Neon Beasts plays with its colors, which makes the fast-paced gameplay even more intense.
The developer Sean Ryan worked as an artist on TimeSplitters Rewind, a remake of the well-known TimeSplitters trilogy. So it is not surprising that Neon Beasts was inspired by this model.
In terms of storytelling, not much is known about the shooter, except that it revolves around gangs and their conflicts. The rest is unsurprisingly hearty ball food with large opponents and powerful explosions.
Core Decay
Developer: Slipgate Ironworks | Release: Not known | Price: Not known

We are jumping into the year 2089. Mankind has managed to use up almost all of the natural resources of our home planet. In addition, nations are no longer controlled by politics but by powerful corporations.
In the midst of this cyberpunk end-of-time scenario, a secret network of conspirators has set out to save humanity – no matter what one has to sacrifice for it. Your goal is to get to the conspirators in time to thwart their plans. You don’t even know about your own past.
When it comes to an exchange of fire in Core Decay, it gets down to business spectacularly. But you also have the choice, thanks to alternative routes, to avoid confrontation and bypass your opponents – or stab them in the back. You can also upgrade your character with over 100 cybernetic implants.
White Hell
Developer: KeleSoft | Release: 12. August 2021 | Price: 12 Euro
Link to YouTube content
The previous titles weren’t crazy enough for you? Then White Hell should be just the thing for you. Because the retro shooter deals with the important question: What would actually be going on in post-apocalyptic Finland?
You are Jarmo and you wake up in your toilet. When the apocalypse broke in outside, you suddenly lost consciousness on the bowl. During your forced nap, how could it be otherwise, an extremist group took control of the frozen wastelands of Finland. But Jarmo doesn’t like that, which is why he takes action aggressively.
In addition to classics such as pistols and shotguns, you also have access to more exotic weapons – such as a sword powered by dark energy. You collect SISU energy for killing enemies. Have you collected enough of it, you can activate the SISU mode, whereby your weapons are upgraded to super weapons.
On your journey you will visit run-down cities, abandoned factories and the end-time wilderness. The weird adventure is accompanied by a cool MIDI soundtrack.
Forgive Me Father
Developer: Byte Barrel | Release: October 28, 2021 | Price: Not known
Link to YouTube content
Forgive Me Father says he was very inspired by the books by HP Lovecraft. You are the only person still in full possession of your mental powers and you are looking for answers to the question why all the other people around you have gone crazy.
The problem: You too are beginning to go mad. A display signals to you how close you are walking to the spiritual abyss. And it’s even worth it to come to terms with being crazy, at least to some extent. Because then you are stronger and have access to other skills with which you can kill your opponents.
As the scenario already suggests, Forgive Me Father is anything but squeamish. The violence is very much based on the representation of comics.
