Nintendo has released a notice that will not please our readers across the pond too much. According has reported, the next July 31, 2020 will be closed forever the limited version of Nintendo eShop for Wii U and 3DS in certain countries of Latin America and the caribbean.
Until now this version offered some basic functions, such as the possibility of redeem codes. However, this option will be removed entirely for affected regions, just as users they will not be able to re-download or update their video games.
It is important not to ignore this detail and even less to leave it until the last minute, because once the eShop closes, it will no longer be possible to re-download or update any title that we have previously acquired. That is why Nintendo recommends check if the games that each one has are up to date with its updates and check that there are none pending to be downloaded again.
Similarly, if there is still someone who I have not redeemed any code you have waiting, now is the right time for it. The only reason that the big N has given regarding the reason for this imminent closure is the following: "We constantly re-evaluate our businesses and base our decisions on a wide variety of factors.". So that, in total there are 42 countries those that will be affected by this measure:
- Anguilla
- Antigua / Barbuda
- Argentina
- Aruba
- Bahamas
- Barbados
- Belize
- Bermuda
- Bolivia
- British Virgin Islands
- Cayman Islands
- Chile
- Colombia
- Costa Rica
- Dominica
- Dominican Republic
- Ecuador
- The Savior
- French Guiana
- Pomegranate
- Guadalupe
- Guatemala
- Guyana
- Haiti
- Honduras
- Jamaica
- Martinique
- Montserrat
- Netherlands Antilles
- Nicaragua
- Panama
- Paraguay
- Peru
- Saint Kitts and Nevis
- St. Lucia
- St. Vincent and the Grenadines
- Surinam
- Trinidad and Tobago
- Turks and Caicos Islands
- US Virgin Islands
- Uruguay
- Venezuela
Among the mentioned regions there are two absences that draw attention, such as that of Mexico and Brazil. In the case of Mexico, it is because its eShop is the full version, while in the case of Brazil, its Nintendo 3DS digital store is the full version and with Wii U it does not have a complete or limited version. Also, Nintendo has wanted to emphasize that this decision will not affect the Nintendo Switch eShop and there are no plans that something like this will happen.
