Geralt gets prettier and prettier as he gets older. Because after The Witcher 3 is now almost eight years old, CD Projekt Red is giving the modern role-playing classic a brand new next-gen upgrade for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
This brings with it numerous graphical and technical improvements – such as ray tracing, nicer textures or revised character models. But how exactly does that look in direct comparison with the original? After the official unveiling yesterday evening, fans didn’t waste any time and compared some screenshots and some videos directly.

The Witcher 3: how much better does it look now?
This is shown by comparison screenshots: Reddit users like the images from the official trailer for the next-gen version of The Witcher 3 Adrian28x or Moon_Devonshire and also the Twitter user Kalenko done directly.
What is particularly striking here is how good the lighting conditions, textures and character details are in comparison to the outside. Likewise, the foresight and details benefit immensely from the technical overhaul, making the game world far more alive.
But it’s best to just take a look at the comparison pictures yourself, even those from the industry insider Benji-Sales or the level designer Miles Tost were shared:

This is shown by comparison videos: Of course, the technical and graphical improvements are illustrated a little better in the first videos that have been available on YouTube since the Next Gen reveal.
The people behind the channel Open Surprise for example, grabbed the reveal trailer of the revised version of Witcher 3 and put it in direct comparison with the original. Here, of course, the fancier textures and character models catch the eye again:

The video of Ultimate Gamerz shows a cutscene and at least a bit of gameplay from the prologue of The Witcher 3. The lighting and the adjusted camera perspectives are particularly noticeable here, which give the events a contemporary look.

The most important information about the Witcher 3 upgrade
The next gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be released on December 14, 2022 for PC, Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X/S – improvements for the old systems will follow later. If you already own the game, you get the upgrade for free. In addition to technical improvements, fans can look forward to a few gameplay and content updates.
