The Witcher 3 is getting a next-gen update December 14free to all owners of the game on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
In terms of what’s actually tweaked, the game will get “dozens” of improvements in visuals, performance, faster load times, and technical improvements. It will also get ray tracing support, as well as various mods fully integrated into the game. In short, it’s going to be the best-running, best-looking version of The Witcher 3 on a console.
For those interested in the series behind The Witcher Netflix show, the game will also receive new content inspired by the series. We don’t know exactly what, but next week’s planned livestream on the CD Projekt Red Twitch channel will apparently reveal more.
For those without a next-gen console, several improvements are also planned for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch versions of The Witcher 3, as well as Netflix’s Witcher-themed content. However, at the time of writing, there is no release date for the update.
All in all, it’s great to see continued support for one of the best RPGs in recent memory, especially with Henry Cavill’s performance, and even with his recast, more and more fans flocking to the series. Let’s hope they don’t get spoiled too much and continue to invest in the story when The Witcher 1 Remake is released. Either way, another excuse to play The Witcher 3 is fine by me!
