CD Projekt RED’s The Witcher 3 is considered one of the biggest hits in the RPG genre. One of the influential minds of the RPG hit has now founded his own development studio together with other CD Projekt employees and remains true to the genre with the debut work.
Former game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz from CD Projekt RED has left the studio and founded his own development studio with other former employees of the Witcher makers. This bears the name Rebel Wolves and remains true to the genre that has been so significantly shaped in the recent past.
Tomaszkiewicz is none other than the Game Director of the hugely successful RPG hit The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. He was also recently involved as Head of Production and Secondary Game Director on the sci-fi RPG Cyberpunk 2077. At Rebel Wolves, he will act as CEO and also game director of the first work, for which he directly hired other ex-developers from CD Projekt RED, who were also involved in the two RPG hits.
The first game from the new studio is said to be an as yet unnamed AAA dark fantasy RPG technically based on Unreal Engine 5. At the same time, this title is only the first part of a planned saga; other games within the new franchise are likely to follow as planned. This should appear for PC and next-gen consoles and put a greater focus on the story.
Tomaszkiewicz previously left CD Projekt in May last year following a months-long investigation into allegations of workplace bullying. The commission responsible for this came to the conclusion that Tomaszkiewicz should be regarded as not guilty.
Nevertheless, in the context of the formation of Rebel Wolves, it was important to emphasize that “fairness, teamwork and openness” are the principles of the new studio. The team should always come first, also believing that happy employees can ultimately make great games.
Other key figures at the new studio include Design Director Daniel Sadowksi (The Witcher, Growing Up), Narrative Director and Main Writer Jakub Szamalek (The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Thronebreaker), Animation Director Tamara Zawada (The Witcher 3, Shadow Warrior 2) , Art Director Bartlomiej Gawl (The Witcher 1-3), CFO Michal Boryka and Head of Studies Robert Murzynowksi.
