Actually, a next-gen upgrade to the RPG epic The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was not only announced, but also provided with a rough release period. However, nothing will come of it for the time being, because now this upgrade has been postponed for the time being.
A specially optimized version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S should have been released in the second quarter of 2022, but the makers of CD Projekt RED have said goodbye to this path for the time being. Unfortunately, the upgrade has now been postponed indefinitely, so it will probably appear a whole corner later than planned.
As the developer confirmed today, the decision was made to transfer work on the next-gen upgrade to an in-house team; this should take over the remaining work. At present, one is therefore only once busy with evaluating what work still needs to be done. The planned release in the second quarter can therefore no longer be adhered to.
When the next-gen upgrade was announced last year, it was emphasized that it would be developed by an external team. It was Saber Interactive, so the studio had previously worked on the switch version and various updates.
The next-gen version with various optimizations will also be released for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S as a Complete Edition including new items inspired by the Netflix series. Details on the corresponding DLC will be available at a later date. Anyone who already owns the PS4 or Xbox One version should receive the upgrade for the newer consoles free of charge.
