The Witcher 4: Lots of speculation about the Witcher amulet

Amulet, lots, speculation, Witcher

Oh, but CD Projekt RED did something. No sooner had the announcement of work on a new Witcher surfaced than fans went wild and speculated, mainly because of one detail.

The fact that CD Projekt RED is working on a new Witcher game has already been whistled from the rooftops and now it’s official. The studio is working on a new part of the series, but this time not with the in-house RedEngine, but with the Unreal Engine 5.

So far so good. However, the teaser image that CDPR used to garnish the announcement caused plenty of speculation among fans. The amulet depicted there, which resembles a cat, caused some confusion.

It is now clear and also confirmed by CDPR: it is a lynx. That doesn’t end the speculation, however, quite the opposite. There is no lynx school in the official canon of books and games. Geralt himself comes from the Wolf School. The only mention of a lynx school is in fan fiction.

This, in turn, apparently indicates that the new Witcher title is at least turning away from Geralt. Which would be logical, because basically his saga was largely told to the end in the third part. So what’s next? Will Ciri become the new main character? Is CDPR coming up with something completely new? When will the new title take place – before or after The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt? Can we even make our own witcher in the new game?

Questions upon questions that will probably remain unanswered for quite a while, because apart from the announcement that a new Witcher game is coming, namely with Unreal Engine 5, CDPR has not released any information and after the long discussions about The Witcher 3 and the debacle surrounding Cyberpunk 2077, the studio is well advised to only reveal further details when everything is dry.
