A farewell is always a little sad, especially when it comes to one of the most popular video game studios, in this case the fathers of The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077. Explanations
A new studio attracts a lot of attention. These are rebel wolves. For the record, Rebel Wolves is a video game development studio founded by industry veterans who have worked on acclaimed titles such as The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. Currently, the team is focused on developing a narrative dark fantasy for PC and consoles, developed using Unreal Engine 5. The Warsaw-based studio advocates a team-oriented approach and a healthy, stress-free work environment, while offering flexible remote work options. Their goal is to create innovative games that will shape the history of the RPG genre. At least that’s the plan.
The sorcerer’s thinking heads come together
In this particular context, the video game industry is in turmoil, as Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, former developer at CD Projekt RED, recently moves to the Rebel Wolves studio, where he will take on the position of Creative Director. Tomaszkiewicz, known for his work as lead quest designer on Cyberpunk 2077, brings a wealth of experience from his previous collaborations on titles such as Gwent: The Witcher Card Game and Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales, where he served as game director. as well as on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. This is clearly not a newbie.
A beautiful project
With Rebel Wolves he will reunite with several of his former colleagues from CD Projekt RED and take part in the development of a new role-playing game. Tomaszkiewicz aims to create a world that inspires players to explore it in depth and tell stories that make them care about the characters. He explains in detail:
For me, there is nothing better than the opportunity to fully immerse myself and experience handcrafted stories and worlds. There are so many fantasy role-playing games these days, but I think there is not only room but also a desire among players for more compelling stories. That’s why I’m really looking forward to joining my old friends and meeting new ones as Creative Director at Rebel Wolves. Our goal is to create the role-playing game that we ourselves would like to play.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for this new dark fantasy RPG. We know The Witcher 3’s significant influence on the history of role-playing games. Now imagine if the next big thing was this project and not The Witcher 4, which is also in development. In this ever-evolving field, anything is possible.
