The Witcher (Netflix): Second season comes in 2021 with a big change

Big, Change, Netflix, Season, Witcher

The first season of The Witcher on Netflix turned out to be an absolute success and pulled several players back into the game world of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The interest in the second season is correspondingly high – and this has now received a first rough date.

As part of a Reddit AMA Showrunner Lauren Hissrich answered the questions of the numerous Witcher fans and answered all kinds of information about the Netflix series. The focus was also on the date of the already confirmed second season, as well as the most frequent criticism of Season 1.

The first season could be seen on Netflix from December 20, 2019 and those who now hoped to be able to consume Season 2 possibly shortly before Christmas 2020 are now disappointed. At the moment, no specific date has been set, the only thing that is certain is that the starting shot will be fired in 2021, according to Hissrich. Reason: You want to give the new season enough time and not publish it hastily; the high quality standard should be maintained.

How many episodes of season 2 will be received is not yet clear. Season 1 is known to consist of only eight episodes – a decision for several reasons. When you start a new series, you never know how the product will be accepted in the end, which is why you tend to keep the number of episodes more manageable. However, the main reason was the story that one wanted to tell. Ultimately, this is the guideline for the ideal number of episodes. In addition, the budget would have been fixed and each additional episode would have resulted in less budget per episode. The second season will be approached exactly the same depending on the final story that is planned for it.

One would then like to eliminate the biggest criticism of season 1, namely the confusing timelines. If you are not a connoisseur of the franchise, it is particularly difficult to understand the numerous leaps in time. Season 2 will now be much more linear, according to Hissrich, also because the plot lines of the three main characters now intersect more often.

You'll have to adjust to new characters though, because Hissrich promises "a whole set of new, fun characters" in season 2.
