Henry Cavill’s farewell to Netflix’s The Witcher is imminent, with Liam Hemsworth taking on the role of Geralt. But how is the actor swap presented in Season 3?
- “The Witcher” on Netflix continues with a fourth season, but for Henry Cavill the journey ends with Season 3.
- In Season 4, Liam Hemsworth will take the helm, but he may appear in the Season 3 finale.
- Is the passing of the baton a theme in the series?
For many fans of “The Witcher”, Season 3, which ends on Netflix on July 27, 2023, is also the end of the series. Not because the streaming service canceled the fantasy hit, but because leading actor Henry Cavill left. Cavill is considered by many fans to be the ideal Geralt of Rivia, unlike Cavill’s replacement, Liam Hemsworth.
Presumably, audiences will see Hemsworth as the new Geralt as early as Season 3, at least briefly. “The Witcher” producer Tomek Baginski already revealed in an interview Yahoo Newsthat the Geralt change fits the tone of the books perfectly, so it’s safe to assume that the series will offer us an explanation of Geralt’s new look. But how can this change take place?
How to explain Liam Hemsworth’s Geralt!
Geralt of Rivia is no stranger to the world of The Witcher, but rarely had trouble traveling from place to place undisturbed in the first few seasons. That has now changed, because several factions are hunting Ciri and thus also Geralt, Ciri’s protector.
Due to his stature and his white hair, Geralt is not exactly inconspicuous and Dandelion also suggested that he dye his hair. This lack of anonymity could mean that Geralt has to change his appearance!
Here “The Witcher” Season 3 would have several options. Geralt could disappear behind a rock with a pair of scissors, cut his hair and emerge with a new hairstyle – now portrayed by Liam Hemsworth – in the season 3 finale. After a short “Geralt, you look so different with your new hairdo!” the story could then continue.
But it would be more logical if Geralt didn’t change his appearance himself, but instead got magical help from Yennefer. As a sorceress, she could customize Geralt’s form far more than a new hairstyle could. Presumably “The Witcher” will go in this direction in the season 3 finale.
Since Geralt’s long, white hair is his trademark, Netflix is unlikely to adapt not only Geralt’s main character, but also his iconic look. But if Geralt is to look less conspicuous, the hair would have to come off willy-nilly. We will find out how this dilemma is resolved in the Netflix news program at the end of July.
