The Witcher will be fully remade in Unreal Engine 5

engine, fully, remade, Unreal, Witcher

As CD Projekt Red just revealed on the 15th anniversary of the original game, The Witcher is getting a remake using Unreal Engine 5. Currently in the early stages of development, much of the game is being developed by Fool’s Theory, a Polish development studio that has powered several games including Divinity Original Sin 2 and Baldur’s Gate 3.

The game was created from scratch using Unreal Engine 5, in keeping with how the next Witcher trilogy was developed. So you might expect this remake to look and feel very similar to the future of the IP as a whole.

Honestly, this seems to be the best game to play on the Steam deck.

As far as other information goes, there’s little to choose from other than the WIP logo you’ve already seen above. As far as the series goes, the Witcher is the king of old cars, and it’s hard to go back in time after all these years. That means a large portion of the Witcher narrative will be inexperienced for many, making this remake more assured than others we’ve seen in recent months.

It’s also another big announcement from CD Projekt Red after a flood of news in recent months, with some calling it a simple attempt to win investor support ahead of the fiscal year. Indeed, the company has been littering, Very The early-revealed projects haven’t had much substance to go along with recently, and after Cyberpunk 2077 launched, there may be reason to convince litigants that the company still has plenty to offer.

Having never played The Witcher, I dare say I can’t wait to remake the original story. Playing The Witcher 3, the game excels at filling in the narrative gaps with callbacks and dialogue so you don’t get lost. However, being able to witness the original events of the trilogy in person in the shiny new engine can only be good news for fans of the series.

But what do you think? Are you interested in this remake? Still not necessary? Let us know below!
