Gaming News The world is upside down! It’s Ubisoft’s highest-rated video game in a long time, but its team has reportedly been disbanded…
Ubisoft is having a difficult year in 2024, to say the least. The French publisher is facing a series of difficulties and poor performances, even if a video game signed “Ubi” was able to bring back color to our video libraries. Unfortunately, the team behind this 86% rated adventure no longer exists!
A difficult 2024 for Ubisoft
2024 is a year Ubisoft won’t soon forget. For several months now, this historic player in the video game industry has been hit by a series of events that have shaken its foundations. After withdrawing from the Tokyo Game Show due to a controversy surrounding Assassin’s Creed Shadows and postponing the said game to February 2025, Ubisoft collapsed on the stock market. Star Wars Outlaws would be a failure for Ubisoft, which doesn’t help matters. According to the latest leaks on the subject, this video game adaptation is said to have sold 7.5 million copies, while the French company hoped for 10 million.
And if that wasn’t enough, last week Ubisoft faced social actions led by 700 of its employees. Numerous pickets were organized after an email was sent internally discussing the possibility of teleworking, which was seen by many as a given. According to representatives of the STJV (union of video game workers), the company has announced to its employees the obligation to return in person at least three days a week, which many consider to be a “disguised social plan” to encourage departures.
The end of a talented team
A former iGamesNews journalist and now a member of the Patreon-funded independent media company Origami has shared some sad news for those who didn’t know. The team behind one of the best video games Ubisoft has produced in recent years is saying goodbye. “The Lost Crown team no longer exists at Ubisoft.” Gautoz announced its dissolution on October 22, 2024. It must be remembered that a possible sequel to Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown never received the green light from headquarters, although some optimists tried to change the minds of big bosses. For the latter, a new episode would have “cannibalized the sales of the first”.
It’s unfortunate that a talented team disappears behind a video game that averaged an 86% rating on MetaCritic and a 16/20 rating on JV. The 80 to 100 people who worked on the project will now be reassigned to other productions within Ubisoft Montpellier. For some of them it was “the best production of their career”. The final clap is bittersweet for the Prince of Persia!
