Summer will be very interesting for the Star Wars universe. In addition to the films in production, Lucasfilm will release a highly anticipated and interesting series through Disney+: The Acolyte. Although there are three months left until its premiere, its creator is already working on the second season.
In an interview with Colliderthe director of the series, Leslye Headlandstates that he conceived the series as a multi-season product, confirming that there will be narrative threads that will not be fully resolved by the end of the first season.
“I would say that when I pitched it, I pitched it as a multi-season series. There are a lot of things at the end of this season that I think are narrative threads that aren’t tied up, for sure. However, I’m the kind of writer who’s not interested on an emotional cliffhanger. I want the viewer to feel like they’ve had a particular kind of catharsis and emotional experience by watching those eight episodes, because I like to reward the audience with that. […] But there’s nothing where you sit on the edge of your seat to have that catharsis, and then you have to wait two years. “These things take forever to make, so I wouldn’t want to do a season that didn’t feel complete, even if it was still open to more stories.”
In short, Headland designed the series to have more than one season, although each one will have a story with a beginning and an end to prevent the most important narrative conflicts from being left open indefinitely in case the show ends up being canceled.
The Acolyte aims to be the big surprise of the summer on Disney+. With an ensemble cast and a fascinating narrative, the series will focus primarily on hand-to-hand action scenes, leaving aside ranged weapons and focusing on a style of martial arts that has rarely been seen in the saga.
