John Wick has obviously not said his last word yet, and it may well be that a brand new film centered around the character played by Keanu Reeves is finally in the works.
Since its inception in 2014, the John Wick universe, led by Keanu Reeves, has captivated audiences around the world and grossed more than a billion dollars at the box office. Celebrated for its style and spectacular action sequences, the franchise continues to grow, with both sequels and spin-offs. And it’s not over yet!
John Wick back?
Recently, persistent rumors have suggested that JohnWick 5 is reportedly in development, with Keanu Reeves set to reprise his iconic role. If director Chad Stahelski hadn’t closed his mind to the idea in 2023, this time everything would be in full swing. According to internal film industry sources, in particular insider Daniel Richtman, production on the fifth opus could begin as early as next year.
Although Lionsgate has not yet officially confirmed this information, the news is already generating great excitement among fans. Interestingly, this fifth film was originally supposed to be shot at the same time as JW: Chapter 4
Hard to wait
Beware of spoilers in this paragraph. In Chapter 4 had left viewers with an ambiguous ending. This raises doubts about the fate of John Wick. The challenge for the writers will therefore be to find a way to bring the main character back while maintaining the coherence of the story. Given the considerable impact of the franchise, it is difficult to imagine that the creators would decide to end Wick’s adventures for good. Especially after the continued success of the previous films.
In addition to this potential fifth work, the JW universe continues to grow with several projects in development. After the limited series The Continental: From the world of John Wickwhich saw the light of day in 2023, a first spin-off film entitled John Wick presents: Ballerina Scheduled for release in June 2025, with Ana de Armas headlining, this spin-off, announced in 2017, has faced several delays, but is now on track to join the expanded John Wick universe.
