If a cell phone comes in to contact with liquid, there are several methods to dry it. One method that may seem strange at first glance is currently taking YouTube by storm.
Im Detail:
- There are a number of videos on YouTube that promise to dry your phone when played.
- The liquid should then be pumped out of the phone with the help of the speakers.
If you search on YouTube for Video to get water out of your phone
YouTube will suggest a lot of videos to you. English-language videos, such as the one linked below, “Sound to Remove Water from Phone Speaker (Guaranteed)” sometimes have views in the tens of millions.

The theory: Loudspeakers convert electrical energy into sound energy, which can also be used to move liquid. To move liquid most effectively, you need the lowest possible tone and the maximum volume that can be produced.
The theory is tested
That’s the theory, but does it work in practice? The Verge has tested several cell phones in cooperation with the repair specialists at iFixit.
The testers proceeded as follows:
- Four phones – iPhone 13, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 3 and Nokia 7.1 – were intentionally made wet.
- They were then placed in a UV bath for one minute.
- Surface water was then removed by shaking.
- Overnight, corresponding YouTube videos were played over and over again.
- In the morning, a test was carried out to see if there was any remaining liquid in the phone from the UV dye.
The iPhone turned out to be completely free of liquid. The two Pixel phones still had some residual liquid and the Nokia phone was more or less ruined
say the testers.
The tests show that special YouTube videos can actually help to dry a cell phone. However, success is not guaranteed. In particular, liquid that is near the speakers could be removed this way.
The trick can also be done with pure audio files. However, YouTube offers a very simple way to test the trick.
