Notice: Spoilers for The Boys Season 4, Episode 5
The series of The Boys is sailing the seas of Prime Video better than ever. The plot is offering great moments and, little by little, we are beginning to understand how compound V works. Now, after the events of chapter 5, its showrunner has wanted to delve deeper into the meaning of this compound for the characters.
In an interview with Variety, Eric Kripke He explained how the powers granted by Compound V are linked to the psychological state of the characters, exemplified by Hughie Sr., who decided to die after receiving the compound due to the serious mental after-effects it caused him.
“We really like when powers can reflect a psychological state or part of a deep-seated subconscious. I think that was a lesson we learned in Gen V and it’s really served us well. So we got really interested in this idea that he, because of his relationship with his ex-wife, felt really insignificant. He has this line, ‘You would look right through me, like I was invisible to you. ‘ So giving him a power that made that metaphor more concrete was something that really interested us.”
As Kripke explains, the powers that many of the characters receive are often tied to their essence and personality. Thus, the series hints at how the powers of many of the protagonists arise, as in the case of Homelander
Definitely, The Boys It is becoming one of the most prominent series of today, competing at the same level (or even surpassing) entertainment titans such as The House of the Dragon or The Last of Us, with an announced ending that hopes to attract the largest possible audience.
