A game that brought many players together

The last games festival took place a little over a month ago on a weekend in Madrid.

A bit like many conventions that Pokémon Go Fest is an event organized by Niantic with the aim of bringing together mobile gaming players around the world and celebrating their shared passion. This festival took place from June 14 to 16, 2024 Madrid and was an opportunity for many players to have fun for a whole weekend. For some players, the festival was also the perfect opportunity to propose marriage. In fact, Niantic had put out a call to fans to find out if any of them planned to use the festival to get down on one knee in front of their better half, and no fewer than five couples decided to say yes.

Among them we find in particular Martina and Shaun (visible in the photo above), two players who met thanks to Pokémon Go. Eight years ago, they were among the first players of the mobile title and met in a London park while looking for small, colorful creatures. Although they were lucky enough to meet in person eight years ago, they spent the next six years in a long-distance relationship. While Shaun lived well in London, this was not the case for Martina, who is originally from Europe. This year, however, Shaun decided to join his better half permanently and decided to mark the occasion by asking for Martina’s hand in marriage at the Pokémon Go Fest in Madrid. Of course, the latter had not expected this at all when she found herself kneeling on the floor facing her future husband. It must be said that Niantic did things right, because the people who responded positively to her marriage proposal were given the opportunity to meet mascots such as Pokémon and Eevee. When it was time to take a photo with them, all you had to do was take out the ring and the moment was immortalized.

It was just the perfect moment. After eight years of being together, six of them long-distance, we finally managed to move in together. The game has helped us discover new places where we live and everywhere we go we like to go for walks with Pokémon Go. We share this passion for the game and really enjoy being outside. The game has also connected us with other local players who are now essential in our lives. – Martina
