The remaster of The Last of Us Part 2, released on January 19, 2024 for PS5, brought the debate about these versions to the table once again. There were plenty of reasons to debate, although in the end it ended up satisfying the fans and passing without further interest for the rest of the players.
The roguelike mode called No Return was the main dish of this remastering, since the graphical improvements were not crazy and the different scenes added (along with the comments) remained anecdotal. That said, we only have the Improvise with the Guitar or Guitar Free mode.
And what exactly is this mode? Well, it allows us to freely use the mechanics of play guitar with the DualSense. It became very popular among players during the scene where Ellie plays and sings Take on Me (A-ha) to Dina. Later, it can be repeated in the theater. Many took the opportunity to cover her favorite songs. This new mode allows us to choose a character and type of guitar (classical, electric, banjo…) to play without restrictions.
The musical talent of the survivors in The Last of Us
Joel and Ellie aren’t the only ones who play guitar in The Last of Us. Many of their players are truly talented and have shared many wonders so far. The inclusion of the new mode has been the perfect excuse to share your covers again… although this time without worrying about the limitations.
The only sensible way to open this list of talents is with YouTube user VIDEOGAMES POWER, who shares his cover of the great song Sweet Dreams by Eurythmics. Although I’m sure the video reminds you more of Marilyn Manson’s version.
If seeing Joel playing Sweet Dreams is not enough, what do you think about seeing Gustavo Santaolalla himself playing the great classic Wicked Game of Chris Isaak with an electric guitar? That is exactly what the 46-second video belonging to user Egemen Gocmen’s channel gives us.
This list of great songs played with the guitars of The Last of Us Part 2 would not be really good if the legendary Metallica song called Nothing Else Matters. The user MaiiKyYT is responsible for giving us a 1 minute and 22 second video. He repeats the red electric guitar carried by Santaolalla just above, but this time in the hands of Joel Miller.
I adm it that this video has caught me off guard. If I didn’t include it, I would feel that the publication is incomplete. The Video Game Animation References channel chooses Ellie and the classical guitar to play the main theme of the Soundtrack of Interstellar
I am not responsible for any wounds that the following video may reopen. Ellie leaves the classical guitar and it is Joel Miller who picks it up to play a song that is sure to bring a tear to more than one fan. Future Days by Pearl Jam is the song that Joel sings to Ellie at some point in The Last of Us Part 2. In the interest of avoiding spoilers, suffice it to say that it is a very special song. Thank you, John O’Sullivan!
From YouTube we went to TikTok, but we stayed with Joel. User mkb337 shares a video of our favorite antihero playing Hotel California of Eagles. Although it is not too long, you can see that he is playing this tremendous song from 1976. It was another of the essentials on this list.

If you like to see Joel Miller, Ellie and Gustavo Santaolalla playing great songs, you should know that there are many more videos on YouTube, TikTok and the rest of social networks. And the number increases a lot if you take into account all those who have come on board so far with Ellie playing with Dina or in the theater. The talent of the players is magnificent and never ceases to surprise us.
