Looking for a new series to binge? Now streaming on Disney Plus, “Moving” features new superheroes, this time… South Korean.
A critically successful series
Basically, Moving is a webtoon by Kang Full: It is the story of three young high school students, Kim Bong Seok, Jang Hee Su and Lee Kang Hun, all of whom have superpowers. The problem is that no one knows about it and they hide their abilities in plain sight: from everyone they get them from their parentssome of whom are agents of a secret organization and will do anything to protect them from outside threats.
Last year, in 2023, “Moving” was adapted into a television series: the project, produced by Hulu (i.e. a subsidiary of Disney), had great success among critics. For example, On Rotten Tomatoes it receives a maximum score of 100% from the press and critics and a maximum score of 97% from Internet users. Exactly that! Stunning, well-written and acted, violent and ultimately entertaining, “Moving” proves to be one of the very good surprises of recent times, even if it has gone rather unnoticed here. Superheroes are still popular
The move is therefore part of a general trend in which superheroes are ultimately very popular, but to an extent that is significantly different from what Marvel and DC Comics have established: it is actually a darker, more urban and irreverent aspect. The best example of this is undoubtedly The Boys, a real media hit that aired on Prime Video: Recently Netflix also offered the series Supercell, a British series in which young people from the suburbs discovered superpowers and which was hugely successful.
South Korea can now boast of having its own project that is continuing a season 2 recently confirmed by Disney with a budget of 33 million dollars. However, no release date has been announced.
