Gaming News This 17/20 rated action game that made headlines in 2015 is available on PS+: it even inspired John Wick Chapter 4
For years, video games and cinema have been give and take: our favorite medium is influenced by the seventh art, and sometimes films themselves pay homage to titles.
Last year we had the opportunity to interview Chad Stahelski, director of John Wick 4 (but also the other three episodes). A fourth part that once again received praise from the press and audience and brought in a nice jackpot at the box office! But did you know that a scene was inspired by a video game? This is the Hong Kong massacre, a Double deck Shooter released in 2019. “It was a very interesting game in which the colors were used very well,” admitted Stahelski. However, this Hong Kong Massacre itself is inspired by another video game available on the PS Plus.
Alternately
Fans of action games already understand what it’s all about Shootings hectic and his “top-down” camera, The Hong Kong massacre immediately brings to mind Hotline Miamithe classic from the studio Dennaton Games (consisting of only 2 developers) and Devolver Digital. In the 2010s, this title caused a stir and, like FEZ or Limbo, became a classic in the independent scene. There are particularly nervous and intense action scenes in which the massacre turns into amphetamine-induced delirium thanks to a screaming soundtrack and art direction… The first episode also presents a rather innovative “moral” for the era in which the player finds himself is questioned about the deadly missions he undertakes. In fact, before each bloodbath, a simple phone call explains exactly how to proceed.
It is available in PS Plus
If all this interests you, look no further than Hotline Miami and its sequel, Hotline Miami 2 Wrong Number (often considered less memorable). available in the PS Plus games catalog. The latter is included in the Extra and Premium subscriptions on PS4 and PS5 (not in the Essential). On the other hand, if you are interested in The Kong Massacre, the title is available on PlayStation for $16.99. However, it is considered less successful than the two Miami hotlines.
