News culture This anime from the creators of Psycho-Pass will delight Netflix subscribers in late 2024 with its unique style
Production IG returns to Netflix in the company of the master of horror, with a truly terrifying result.
Another masterpiece after Psycho Pass
Production IG is a renowned Japanese animation studio known for its diverse and high-quality works. He created iconic series such as “Psycho-Pass,” which explores themes of surveillance and justice in a futuristic dystopia. The studio is also behind classics like Ghost in the Shellwhich deals with artificial intelligence and human identity. In addition to these science fiction works Production IG also worked on series like Haikyuu!! and Aachi & Ssipak, and with the release of this anime, the teams are now heading towards horror Netflix.
After a short guest appearance exclusively Max, Uzumaki comes to Netflix with its four episodes. This series comes directly from Spiral (in VF)the sleeve of This is Junji. The story takes place in a small town where a strange phenomenon occurs: the residents become possessed by spirals, which seem to have increasingly devastating effects on their behavior and mental health. Little by little, the spirals invade all areas of daily life and cause terrible and supernatural events. If you know anything about the mangaka's works, you know that the associated thrills and brilliant writing style are guaranteed. However, there is a big “but”.
A… frightening animation
As we already told you, the series has already aired on Max and many Internet users have already been able to watch it. The first episode was praised for its story and the resulting horror, but especially for its animation, which is a real credit to Junji Ito. But it wasn't until the second episode that disappointment came when viewers realized that this fabulous animation had been replaced by something some had compared it to Slide animations.
Apparently the Drive studio had to react and explained that this was not actually the case not enough budget for Uzumaki. “I can't talk about what happened, but we were screwed and the options were: A) don't finish the show, don't air anything and call it a loss, B) just finish the show and air it. Episode 1 and leave the show incomplete or C) broadcast all four episodes with all defects.” The animators therefore had to choose the last option alongside two others questionable. However, the animations fall short of expectations, the essence of the manga remains present and fans of the master of horror still get their money's worth.
