The first Titanfall was released ten years ago. The shooter focuses entirely on multiplayer action, pitting heavily armed soldiers against heavily armored mechs.

The game Diesel Knights now wants to build on this game principle. It is currently being developed by a small team led by character animator Xaver B. Johnson. He recently appeared on X, formerly Twitter, amazed at the popularity the game has recently received.

»You are incredible«

On X, Johnson posted on the official account of the game a screenshot showing the number of subscribers on YouTube shows. The number has risen enormously in the last few days, from a few dozen to more than 13,000.

Johnson writes:

Guys… what just happened? This is mind boggling. This is totally unreal… You guys are amazing. Thank you.

Johnson also writes that the prototype v0.3 of Diesel Knights, which the team is currently working on, will be released as a free demo. The developer had announced this in the current YouTube video announced for the game.

In the video, Johnson talks about the progress in the game. Among other things, a new map is presented. At the end of the almost six-minute video, the announcement of the free demo is made.

No release date yet

The prerequisite for this is that the YouTube channel has 1,000 subscribers by the end of 2024. Meanwhile (as of September 26, 2024) there are more than 19,000.

Johnson is receiving positive feedback for the project on both platforms. The user writes Sorin Sorrel on X: »I can’t wait to try it out!«. And the user @Schebbe writes on YouTube:

This is the Titanfall 3 I never knew I needed. How come it doesn’t get more attention than it does?

There is no specific release date for Diesel Knights yet. On Steam, the game is listed as “Upcoming Announcement.” In his videos, Johnson hints that he has been working on the game on and off for some time.

In the videos, Johnson also talks about his thoughts on the animations in the game and how they are created. This is exactly what is discussed in an edition of our DevPlay format:

By the way: As things stand, Diesel Knights will be a purely multiplayer game – just like Titanfall. Its sequel, Titanfall 2, had a great story campaign. Fans waited for a sequel for years.

And indeed, a new Titanfall game was said to have been in development. Although the title was never officially announced, EA hinted at it several times. In early 2023, however, the company pulled the plug and buried the project.
