News culture This fantastic film, much darker than “The Lord of the Rings”, revives a legend that is over 800 years old in cinemas in 2024
Based on a 13th century legend, this project could well appeal to fans of The Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones.
At the origins of the heroic fantasy
After the success of Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find ambitious fantasy productions. But with Hagen, Germany wants to prove that the rest of the world doesn’t have to be ashamed of Hollywood blockbusters.
Project management: Cyril Boss and Philipp Stennert, Hagen is an adaptation of the book Hagen of Tronje by Wolfgang Hohlbein, who himself was inspired by the legend of the Ring of the Nibelung, a centuries-old story that laid the foundation for contemporary heroic fantasy and particularly inspired authors such as Tolkien and George RR Martin.
The Ring of the Nibelung tells the story of a cursed ring forged by the dwarves and of Siegfried, a prince who comes to the aid of the Burgundian King Günther to win the hand of Brunehilde before being murdered by the warrior Hagen. This film must tell this dramatic story that “combines love, power, family and war with impressive cinematic quality.” And given the images that have already been published, we can only agree.
An international publication
“Hagen” just hit theaters in Germany and no release date in France has been announced. However, French-speaking viewers will certainly be able to discover this project in a different form next year. In fact, Hagen is scheduled to be distributed worldwide as a six-episode miniseries in 2025. As revealed deadlineFremantle acquired international distribution rights earlier this year. There are only a few months left until we can discover this more than promising project.
