Gaming News This Final Fantasy is Square Enix’s best-selling digital game on PlayStation: Good news for FF7 Rebirth?
Final Fantasy VII is in many ways the most iconic game in the Square Enix saga: it’s definitely iconic enough to return in the form of a gigantic three-part remake. The first is quite simply one of the Japanese publisher’s best scores.
FF7, a bestseller until the end
The first Final Fantasy VII, released in 1997, is an absolute cult due to its universe, its plot, its characters and its damn effective game system: even back then it was a hit that blew up the scores. In 2006, almost 10 million copies were sold, and suffice it to say that this figure has increased significantly since then with the various ports: Still, one couldn’t count on its revision, Final Fantasy VII Remake, a long-running project released on PlayStation 4 in 2020.
A great exclusive, but it was later exported to the PlayStation 5 and then to the PC and always enjoyed great popularity. But if we go by the results achieved on Sony consoles, Square Enix clearly has something to offer: so to speak The title is officially “the game that has become the best-selling digital release on PlayStation in Square-Enix history,” with seven million buyers for the dematerialized version of the PlayStation Store.
On to the stories
The information has just been clarified in a press release about a somewhat special partnership between Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and the Sony BRAVIA XR TV, the latter being considered the official TV for the software in question.
Obviously, this good news (FF7 Remake sales on PS4/PS5, not on TV) only bodes well for the sequel. FF7 Rebirth, which will be released exclusively for PlayStation 5 on February 29, 2024 : PlayStation players’ enthusiasm for the Final Fantasy VII universe seems more confirmed than ever.
We remember that the connection between Square-Enix and Sony has existed for several years and has led to the PlayStation exclusivity of several AAA titles such as Final Fantasy VII Remake or Rebirth, yes, but also Forspoken or Final Fantasy XVI. And a priori, this shouldn’t change too much in the future.
We remember that too FF7 Rebirth will therefore be the second part of a remake trilogy that will freely take up the story of the original 1997 game
