For those who didn't know, the Sexe Intentions series is a remake of one of the most iconic novels of the late 18th century. Les Liaisons Dangereuses by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos was published in 1782 and is one of the most famous epistolary novels in French literature. Through a series of letters exchanged between characters, this novel explores timeless themes of manipulation, power and morality.
The novel focuses on two main characters: the Marquise de Merteuil and the Viscount de Valmont. These two twisted nobles engage in a game of manipulation, using their intelligence and charm to bring about the downfall of others. The Marquise embodies an independent and calculating woman determined to subvert the expectations of the women of her time. For his part, Valmont is a cynical and seductive libertine, ready to do anything to satisfy his desires.
Its main plot revolves around two targets: the young and naive Cécile de Volanges and the pious and virtuous Madame de Tourvel. Through their machinations, Merteuil and Valmont show how intimacy can be exploited and trust broken.

These iconic figures, created by Laclos more than two centuries ago, continue to fascinate. And for good reason! Their ruthless seduction games and their perverse intrigues still resonate in our society. Roger Kumble understood this well in 1999 with “Sex Intentions,” a film that shaped a generation. By transferring the action to an upscale New York environment, the director gave Laclos' work a new face and thereby proved that the themes addressed by the author were timeless.
A new Amazon series has just landed on Prime Video, but the reviews are anything but unanimous. Inspired by Sex Intentions, that classic teen film directed by Roger Kumble, this new series promised to take us back to the world of private high schools and teenage intrigue. Unfortunately, the initial feedback is rather negative.
We were hoping for a breath of fresh air with this new adaptation, but according to critics, it's more of a remake that doesn't reinvent the wheel. The series takes up the codes of the cult film from the 90s without adding much new. The critics explain that the plot is predictable, the characters lack depth and the whole thing is far too clever to excite today's audience.
