The incombustible rivalry between Son Goku and Vegeta throughout their history has been shown in many ways through video games, but it has never looked so exciting as in Dragon Ball Sparking! ZERO: the legitimate fourth installment of the highly acclaimed Budokai Tenkaichi series combines nostalgia, the power of the Unreal Engine and the new power levels of both saiyans to offer a trailer full of emotions.
Offered as one of the highlights of the Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2024, the generous two minutes of Dragon Ball Sparking! ZERO They are an exhibition of the techniques and transformations that we will have access to throughout the game, offering a review of moments and iconic attacks of Dragon Ball ranging from the invasion of the Saiyans to the impressive awakening of the power of the Gods during Dragon Ball Super. The result, as you will see, is pure fanservice.
Special mention, beyond the visual section, is that the trailer itself combines gameplay and cinematic scenes that will be shown in the game; but also recurring features of the original Budokai Tenkaichi and those games that followed in their wake for decades: we can fight as Ozaru (Giant Monkeys) or demolish each stage until the large environments are reduced to rubble with kicks, blows and energy cannon shots.
Explosive battles, iconic scenes and hundreds of available characters
What’s more, in the process the most observant will have discovered that both characters have lots of variants – something very typical of the series – that manifest themselves in very characteristic outfits: we will see the complete armor with which Vegeta arrived on Earth, the destroyed uniform with which Goku faced Frieza on Namek (with slightly different hair than in later transformations) and even how a certain prince of the saiyans allows himself to be possessed by Bábidi’s magic to push his strength beyond its limits .
Very special mention to techniques and transformations that have only been seen in the movies, such as Dragon Ball Super: Broly, although we are left with two doubts that, logically, Bandai Namco has reserved for the future: the release date and whether both will unleash the power of the Ultrainstitute and the Ultraego. Given what we have seen, it will take time to have an official answer to these questions. However, there is a rather promising image that is offered to us right at the end.
Assuming that each hexagon corresponds to a Dragon Ball character that will appear in Dragon Ball Sparking! ZERO, and assuming that each transformation occupies one, we find that there will be more than 150 fighters in the game. For now, in the trailer it has already been made clear that Goku and Vegeta will claim no less than 24 spaces in the total number of characters that the game will offer. However, it must be taken into account that each version of it has its own techniques and attacks.

Dragon Ball Sparking! ZERO It will be much more than a reunion with the Budokai Tenkaichi series: it will be the video game that commemorates 40 years of Dragon Ball, offering a review of the most spectacular moments of the manga and anime imagined by Akira Toriyama.
The best fighting game starring Son Goku and his friends? Everything already shown is going very well and the bar is very, very high, but we have a transcendental element: the innate determination of the saiyans to overcome their own limits.
