The surprise film Prey will be released on Disney+ in 2022 and will soon be entitled to a sequel. And it wouldn’t be the only film from the Predator universe that would see the light of day in the coming years.
The Prey sequel in preparation?
It was one of the surprise hits of 2022. Prey was released directly on Disney+ and had some success with the press and audiences. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film received a Tomatometer rating of 94% and an audience rating of 74%. On Allociné’s side, Prey received a press rating of 3.6/5 and an audience rating of 3.5/5. A more than honorable result for this spin-off of Predator, a cult franchise from 20th Century Fox that, frankly, had difficulty getting back to the top.
With this film, Disney scored points with the fans. The choice of the atypical setting of wild America during the Comanche era managed to seduce the audience and bring a breath of fresh air to the franchise. And after this initial success, it’s possible that Prey will soon return with a direct sequel. As reported deadline, Fox would begin work on Prey 2 while Amber Midthunder would negotiate her return to the role of Naru. But that’s not all.
A new Predator spin-off on track
According to Deadline, Prey 2 is still in early stages and it could be several years before the project sees the light of day. However, another feature film from the Predator universe is likely to be released before this expected sequel. Directed by Dan Trachtenberg, who directed Prey on a first name basis, a film called Badlands is reportedly in the works. Considered a priority by 20th Century Fox, Badlands still remains very mysterious and we don’t know the setting or cast. Dan Trachtenberg has already written the script with Patrick Aison and this is the only information officially shared. Therefore, it is difficult to see the general outline of this project at the moment, but the title could potentially reveal a post-apocalyptic universe. Be continued.
