Announced in 2019 and expected for 2025, this Marvel film seems to be hit by a series of bad news that potentially jeopardizes the entire project.
20 years after the last film of the legendary vampire hunter Blade, Marvel seems to be hesitant to bring him back to the cinema. In 2022, the reboot lost a first director. Our colleagues at The Wrap
The return of Blade to the cinema, a fang in the foot of Marvel
In 1998, the first Blade film made a strong impression, starring Wesley Snipes as the charismatic half-human, half-vampire vampire hunter. Two films followed in 2002 and 2004 before he faded into obscurity. Fast forward to 2019, when Marvel announced with great fanfare at San Diego Comic-Con that they were producing a new film for the beloved character. This reboot would be directed by B assam Tariq and star Mahershala Ali.
Three years later, he left the production and was replaced by Yann Demange, a French-Algerian director. A first blow, even if the aim of the film was obviously to give him the time he needed to properly portray a character as full of contrasts as Blade. Two years later, it was the turn of a second director to leave the set. However, Marvel still did not see fit to postpone the film’s release, which is still scheduled for November 7, 2025.
Production has not officially started yet. The other Marvel film expected in 2025, Fantastic Four, is already well underway. Eric Brooks’ upcoming return to the cinema therefore seems to be in rather poor shape at the moment. Let’s hope that this will not be the case with its video game counterpart, developed by the talented studio Arkane Lyon.
