News culture This Naruto fan rethinks this author’s decision: he came up with an alternate storyline in which this iconic character survives, and it’s quite convincing!
Naruto can be considered one of the most significant works in the manga world. This well-known shonen was published from 1999 to 2014 and many of the events that occurred in the work shocked and moved readers. The death of a key character had such an impact on this Internet user that he decided to invent his own “what if”, and that’s quite honest!
Spoiler alert
This article contains various spoilers related to the plot of Naruto.
Masashi Kishimoto’s work has been a huge success throughout its publication. With 72 volumes published between 1999 and 2014, Naruto is a manga that has lasted decades (even today). The story immerses us in the life of the eponymous character, and with so many volumes, I’ll spare you all the details of the plot, but you can imagine that our blonde ninja has had many adventures and misadventures. Today we look at the creation of a fan who created his “what if” of one of the most moving and memorable passages in the manga
An honest animation
In 2009, viewers witnessed the death of Naruto’s mentor. But what would have happened if Naruto had heard about the secret mission led by Jiraiya? Would he have been able to save him? Would he have also succumbed to Pain’s attacks? This fan gives us the answer thanks to this homemade animation that you can find below.
So yes, visually this fan-made animation is quite convincing and some might even believe it based on its quality. But in terms of the story and its coherence, it doesn’t work at all. First of all, how did Naruto find out about Jiraiya’s secret mission? The mentor of the Kyubi ship had only informed Tsunade about his mysterious task without even telling her where he was going. But nothing goes right when we see that Naruto can transform into Hermit Rikudô Mode. Which is completely impossible at this moment in the story, since Kyubi (the demon trapped inside Naruto) still hasn’t granted him complete control over his chakra, and Naruto hasn’t yet met the hermit Rikudô, who also gives him his power.
Sad but necessary
In idea, this “what if” could make fans of the character Jiraiya dream. But on paper there are many inconsistencies, especially since the scenario originally presented by Kishimoto is unavoidable for several reasons. The death of Jiraiya allows Naruto to grow internally. The loss of a loved one makes him realize that despite his power (that of the nine-tailed demon fox), Naruto will not be able to save everyone. During his confrontation with Pain (Jiraiya’s killer), he tells the future Hokage that he cannot break the cycle of hatred and wars without making a sacrifice. Which made Naruto accept this harsh reality.
