If we talk about zombie video games, the first mentions always tend to be Resident Evil, Left 4 Dead, The Last of Us and Days Gone, among others. However, there is a lot of post-apocalyptic world beyond. Undead Labs are responsible for State of Decay, a franchise that is about to become a trilogy and whose new installment promises more than ever.
Although State of Decay 2 is not exactly recognized for revolutionizing zombie video games, it is certainly an experience that many players have fallen in love with. It proposes a very interesting cocktail: open world, bursting zombies, survival and settlement management. It’s no wonder State of Decay 3 draws so much attention.
Undead Labs has taken advantage of a recent development diary to provide news on the development of State of Decay 3. Phillip Holt, head of the studio, comments that this delivery is much more ambitious thanks to the growth of the company and the acquisition of Microsoft, which translates into much greater support.
When we released the first State of Decay, we were about 20 people. State of Decay 2 was created with approximately 60 or 65 people. Today we are more than double that size.
Holt points out that Microsoft’s support has allowed them to expand, access opportunities that were not possible before, and be much more ambitious with State of Decay 3. They promise that they will remain faithful to their original essence. Hopefully this support will serve to improve all the aspects that you did not like about State of Decay 2 (currently finished), which ranged from initial performance to fairly limited multiplayer. If everything goes as expected, we will see it in 2025.
