A new in-browser game has arrived that confused many of us this morning. While this is obviously a joke about how ridiculous password requirements have become over the years (for good reason), this particular password game is both fun and frustrating.
Open up Neil Agarwal’s Code Game and try it out; you’ll see what I mean right away. At first it might look like some sort of phishing attempt, but start with random words and go from there.
When you choose a random password, a new rule will appear. While it starts out simple, requiring you to add some Roman numerals, captchas, and whatever, things only get more complicated. When they do, you’ll find yourself tweaking and editing passwords to fit every rule, which includes finding emojis, pasting Wingdings, and more.
It even lets you play chess and find out what the best moves are in algebraic chess notation; that’s where I had to give up. Fuck you, rule 16.
If you thought you could swap answers with friends and find a way to the end of this puzzling password game, you’d be wrong. As Murlin discovered on ResetEra, the map, captcha, and board rules will be randomized each time you try the game, so unless your friends happen to be natural chess and geography gods, you’ll be trying to satisfy every rule The requirements are up to you.
Try the game out on Neal Agarwal’s website, where he also hosts a number of other browser games to help pass the time. If you do try out the password game, be sure to let us know what rules you reached before the final click!
