The Doom saga has left its mark on a generation of gamers, and while it has returned in various forms over the years, it is undoubtedly the original game that fans love the most. But what would this title look like if it swapped its FPS status for a completely different genre?
Thirty years later, this game remains iconic
Whether you played the original version released in 1993 or the remake released on eighth-generation consoles in 2019, you probably know how Doom at your fingertips. One of the first FPS with 3D graphics and multiplayer options, Doom revolutionized a genre that rhymes with a lot today Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Destiny 2or even Appreciation. But the military does not limit itself to waste treatment, but to implementation Teleportation experiments that a portal to hell was accidentally opened, He lets a horde of evil demons invade Phobosone of the moons of the planet Mars. The Doomguy is then sent to that moon to rescue the survivors Kill the demons with a weapon. Doomguy is not afraid of anything
Big fan of Doom, Edy Pagaza decided to turn my back on him BFG 9000 in favor of Doomguy’s fists in a mod that transforms the iconic game of id software into a third-person action game. In his mod, an overview of which you can find below, Edy Pagaza offers smoother camera and movementas well as one new character model Become an expert in hand-to-hand combat by using a series of punches, combos and even well-placed kicks to destroy the demons that get in his way.
8 years ago I had an idea and created this prototype with pre-rendered characters. Since then I’ve learned 3D modeling and animation and found a way to import 3D models into Doom.
Pagaza has been working on this project since 2016and the evolution between the first iteration of the mod and the latest version is simply breathtaking. The animations are fluid and the variety of combinations is impressive. The sound and visual effects, entertaining as they are, add a bit of nostalgia to this mod that has come a long way since its debut. Over and beyond, Pagaza is currently working on enemy behavior to allow them to block and dodge attacks, but also to be more aggressive towards the player. Other useful improvements are also planned, e.g an alternative function for the Doomguy.
