First announced on Xbox in 2019, this promising game finally seems to be showing reassuring signs of life. Better late than never?
After the very good multiplayer game service Sea of Thieves, the legendary studio Rare treated its fans with the announcement of a new single-player game during the Xbox X019 event: Everwild. Five years later, however, many have forgotten it, as there is worrying radio silence, a possible sign that something is wrong. But that wouldn’t ultimately be the case, the title would still be alive and could even finally be released soon.
The next Rare game from Xbox Games Studios brings back signs of life
It’s been 22 years since the legendary Rare Studio (Banjo Kazooie, Conker, Golden Eye 007, Perfect Dark) was purchased by Xbox. It has had an incredible journey since then, with its latest coup in the form of service game Sea of Thieves. However, fans expected a new solo game from him with his own unique touch. In any case, this seemed to represent Everwild when it was announced in 2019. This brand new license in a natural and magical world with sublime art direction and poetry seemed very promising.
Since then, the Xbox-owned studio has generally kept a very low profile, which could portend the worst. Especially given the numerous waves of layoffs and studio closures that have plagued Xbox since the takeover of Activision Blizzard. But ultimately there would be more fear than harm, if we are to believe Windows Central’s Jez Corden: ” I’ve heard that development on Everwild is progressing well. The gameplay loop is complete and we should see the game again soon
At least that’s all we wish for the talented studio Rare. If Everwild shows up soon, we could bet it will take place during the next Partner Preview event, during the Game Awards 2024 in December, or even during the next Xbox Developer Direct if Microsoft’s gaming industry plans to reschedule this annual event organize . If this is the case as with the previous edition, then we are talking about a release in January 2025. Let’s hope that Rare takes the opportunity to announce the release date a priori for PC, Xbox Series and Game Pass.
