Sony has produced a unique console to mark the farewell of Pl ayStation CEO Jim Ryan. At a thank you party, the long-time PlayStation employee and later boss received a PlayStation 5 in the style of the PS1 as a farewell gift.
Which farewell, you ask? The head of PlayStation announced his resignation in September. He will only work there until March 2024. You can find out more about this in the article by colleague Tillmann: Huge upheaval at PlayStation: After 28 years, boss Jim Ryan is quitting
PlayStation 5 like in 1994
Thanks to a post on X (formerly Twitter) from a PlayStation employee, we got a little insight into Jim Ryan’s “thank you party.”
In the post, user @InstallBase describes that he “can’t miss the opportunity [konnte]”To go to Jim Ryan’s thank you party and be with some legends.”
He also shared several pictures from the party, including a picture of a PlayStation 5 that is in the style of the PlayStation 1 – at least in terms of color. Instead of the typical black and white, the console is in gray tones.

But there is another special feature: the USB port is designed so that a PlayStation 1 controller can be plugged in. It is questionable whe ther it would actually work.
We’re assuming it’s a dedicated USB-C port because the cable in the PS5 appears to be connected to the DualSense controller. However, this is not clearly visible in the picture.
The controller has also received a new coat of paint. It is also decorated in gray tones and has the colorful button design of the PS1 controllers. The triangle, squ are, cross and circle have the typical colors green, pink, blue and red. The PlayStation button also has an older, colorful design.
The collector’s dream that won’t come true (so soon).
In his X article, the Sony employee also says that the console is “one of a kind”. This suggests that it will never appear on the market.
In the comments under the post there are some people who would be particularly happy about the PS1 version of the DualSense controller. Alex Roca Sánchez, among others, writes:
»Well deserved. This gamepad looks great, even the USB cable port looks like one on the PS1.«
Due to the uniqueness of the retro PS5, collectors and fans of the PS1 style are unlikely to be able to get their hands on the controller or the PS5. However, a small consolation could be an exciting new controller from PlayStation. You can find out more about this in the article by colleague Jusuf:
Sony is probably working on the PlayStation controller of the future, which should make it easier for you to play
