News culture This science fiction film about Steven Spielberg’s video game divides the public, but a sequel is confirmed and unfortunately without its main advantage
Six years ago, Steven Spielberg returned with a massive science fiction blockbuster: Ready Player One, whose principle took full advantage of virtual reality. A sequel is now in the works, final… a priori.
We’re going to play a game
The least we can say: is that Steven Spielberg regularly visits cinema classics : We owe him a series of cult feature films, some with striking special effects (especially given the time in which they were made) and which have left a great mark on people’s minds. Jurassic Park, Jaws, Indiana Jones AND…. Yes, it does.
However, no one has ever used such computer-generated images Ready, Player One: Sorted in 2018This science fiction film plunged us into a somewhat dystopian future in which Citizens, armed with ultra-immersive virtual reality technology, plunged into a gigantic, interconnected metaverse. A huge open world with thousands of pop culture Easter eggs in which the hero embarks on a risky treasure hunt.
An experience that made major waves when it hit theaters, still grossing a whopping $607.9 million at the global box office: Beyond Steven Spielberg had always expressed his desire to see a sequel one day, but had been tongue-in-cheek about the work’s progress. Today we finally see things a little more clearly.
VR a real sequel
During the recent Oscars, Steven Spielberg, who was present, took some time for a short interview with blogger Roger Friedman: He revealed that a sequel to Ready Player Two (that’s his nickname) was in the works and that he wouldn’t be securing production for now.
If this can be a real sticking point for the admirers of the filmmaker – whose genius has long been proven and is a real guarantee of quality – it is not the first time that this pattern has occurred: the American had already passed the torch for “Jurassic Park”. III (the saga later became Jurassic World) or even Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. For Ready Player Two, he has not yet revealed who will be in charge of piloting this project, which we imagine will be massive, but he will definitely have the role of producer.
Remember that “Ready Player One” was an adaptation of the novel of the same name and that in 2020 a sequel to the latter, “Ready Player Two”, also written by Ernest Cline, was published.
