A title (that hasn’t even been announced yet) has suddenly appeared in the jungle of Steam games. Several thousand players are using it, but what happens?

Deadlock, does that mean anything to you? That is the Codename of Valve’s new multiplayer gamethe father of (among others) Half-Life, Team Fortress and Counter Strike. Three months ago, this name unexpectedly made it onto the internet thanks to the indiscretions of an insider. The media Insider Gaming was then able to watch the gameplay. Deadlock really does exist and it is a mixture of a MOBA and a hero shooter in the 3rd person! Only Valve has not yet officially announced it.

Will there be an announcement soon?

If we’re talking to you about it today, it’s because SteamDB recently recorded a surge in the number of players for the title (although it doesn’t have a page in the Valve store yet). This Monday, August 13, there were almost 18,000 players connected to Deadlock at the same time… Why then? Well, becauseA handful of lucky people were invited to a playtest as we learn on X (Twitter).

A user has also posted a screenshot of an apparent in-game message. The latter explains the “Deadlock is still in an early stage of development” – with “a lot” of temporary art and experimental gameplay – and that we should therefore not reveal anything about it… However, some players did not hesitate to give a short feedback: “The game is fun, very fun,” we can read, for example. “It’s a nice mix of Overwatch and League of Legends,” wrote someone else.

The silent developer

Apparently, with the message “Deadlock is still in early development,” Valve is not yet ready to officially unveil the project! The developer is known for not releasing many titles and cancel those that do not meet its requirements. At the same time, the studio can afford it thanks to the millions of dollars it earns each year thanks to Steam (where it gets 30% back from each transaction).
