The effects of cancellation of E3 2020 Due to the coronavirus, they did not take long to get noticed. While some companies like Ubisoft maintain the idea of holding a conference in digital format, others like Bethesda they have ruled it out until at least next year. Square Enix joins the latter.

The Japanese company has published its financial results in relation to the last year. As a result of this, Square Enix has expressed that this 2020 no digital conference to be held in June as a substitute for their usual E3 show, journalist Takashi Mochizuki of Bloomberg has echoed.

Square Enix has said it will not hold an online event to unveil new releases for this fiscal year at E3 dates, as they are having a hard time getting everything ready for such a date due to COVID-19. Instead, they will announce the new titles individually as time goes on.

That does not mean that they will be silent. As Mochizuki explains, announcements of new games will come individually. The dates we do not know, although seeing that the problem has been not arriving in time for June, it is quite likely that it will be in the middle of summer or late.

Less profit than last year

The aforementioned financial report also mentions a 10% drop in game sales revenue compared to last year. Square Enix itself attributes this decline to the fewest major pitches.

Recall that the report refers to the fiscal year that ended on March 31, 2019. Final Fantasy VII Remake I was going to leave within that period, but due to a last minute delay went to April 10that is, the following fiscal year. That is why the sales of this title do not count in the exposed results.
