So far, the publishers have been unusually cautious about the commitments to the upcoming gamescom in Cologne. Now another big name has announced its non-participation.
The list of publishers who will take part in gamescom in Cologne this year remains manageable. Microsoft and Bethesda only announced their participation yesterday, but Sony, for example, is not there and major publishers such as Activision Blizzard or Ubisoft have not yet commented.
In any case, it is now certain that another publisher, THQ Nordic, has canceled its participation. THQ Nordic will not be present in the public halls or in the business area. There is no information on the reasons yet, but Embracer Group, the parent holding company of THQ Nordic, is currently on an austerity course with some restructuring, which may play into the cancellation.
That doesn’t mean there’s nothing to see from THQ Nordic, though. The publisher apparently plans to present its own portfolio on August 11th as part of a live stream showcase that is to be broadcast on YouTube, Twitch and Steam. There should be new material for upcoming games like Alone in the Dark or Outcast 2, as well as one or the other announcement.
Titles such as Biomutant, Desperados III, ELEX 2 or We Are Football were recently released under the THQ Nordic label, and in a few days Jagged Alliance 3 will be a new attempt to bring the legendary tactical series back to life. The label also runs the remake of Gothic by Piranha Bytes, which is currently being developed by Alikima Interactive for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
