Nine announcements, unexpected surprises and several joys. THQ Nordic was ahead of the big German video game fair with its annual Digital Showcase to secure its future with safe bets, long-anticipated returns and sequels that we didn’t see coming, but welcomed with open arms. And between one thing and another, a mysterious game.
Although the Embracer Group division placed THQ Nordic in the new category of indie, double-A and free-to-play games, the other reality is that they currently have 23 games in development, of which 13 have not yet been announced. And, as you will see, some of the games shown at their digital event have higher pretensions than those of more than one blockbuster.
Without further delay, at iGamesNews we have gathered all the trailers and announcements for the THQ Nordic Digital Showcase 2024 in one place, along with their respective launch plans, if any. A first taste, as you will see, of what promises to be a month of August with plenty of room for surprises.
Gothic 1 Remake
- Plataformas: PC, PS5 y Xbox Series S/X
- Date: unannounced
The appearance of the remake of Gothic It didn’t come as a surprise to us, as it was the hook of the digital event. What was shown, however, was a joy. In fact, while we still don’t know what other projects the company is considering, it is the current workhorse of the reformulated THQ Nordic.
The Barcelona-based Alkimia Interactive takes over from Piranha Bytes, promising a comprehensive Unreal Engine-based remake of a classic that is more than two decades old. A title that aims to take us back to the quintessence of fantasy role-playing video games and that, unfortunately, still has no release date.
We will have a new Darksiders
- Platforms: Unannounced
- Date: Unannounced
Darksiders is coming back, although it is not clear whether it will be with a new spin-off or through a fourth numbered installment. If the trend of the previous games continues, it would be expected that Lucha will take over in some way. However, what is clear is that it will take a while to hear any news.
THQ Nordic itself has unleashed the announcement, confirming that the project is in the hands of Gunfire Games and, in the process, has reserved any kind of details related to the story, the theme or its protagonist. What is clear, or at least what we are left with, is that even with the complications of Embracer there are plans to maintain the living saga.
Titan Quest II
- Plataformas: PC, PS5 y Xbox Series S/X
- Date: Unannounced
One year and two months after the launch of Diablo 4, Grimlore Games itself makes its move: Titan Quest II closely follows the formula coined by Blizzard, drawing inspiration from Greek mythology. However, it must be admitted that what is shown in its latest trailer looks outrageous. Especially when compared to the original, released in a rather distant 2006, although updated with a more than convenient 10th anniversary commemorative edition.
We haven’t set a date or requirements for PC, although it will also be coming to consoles, but at least the project is not in just anyone’s hands: Grimlore Games, the creators of SpellForce 3have been able to show a preview of what its gameplay, aesthetics and role-playing elements will be like. And it doesn’t look bad, mind you.
Wreckfest 2
- Plataformas:PC, PS5 y Xbox Series S/X
- Date: Unannounced
THQ Nordic’s Destruction Derby is back: Wreckfest is getting a direct sequel, and that means chaos and destruction on four wheels. We don’t have a clue when it will be released, but we do have some interesting details: the physics and the game engine will have been completely improved in order to offer more spectacle, but also much more realism both when driving and when crashing. One more thing: despite the fact that it has only just been announced, it is already possible to add it to the wish list. and Steam.
Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed
- Plataformas: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series S/X, XBox One y Switch
- Date: September 24, 2024
Another classic that returns looking better than ever and after more than a decade since its debut: Purple Lamp, THQ Nordic and Disney itself will give a comprehensive update to the classic platformer. Epic Mickey by Warren Spector for each and every current console. There will be collector’s editions for all of them and their release will take place just as summer and autumn change: Mickey will once again wield his paintbrush on September 24, 2024.
The Eternal Life of Goldman
- Plataformas: Switch, PC, PS5 y Xbox Series S/X
- Date: Unannounced
Beware of The Eternal Life of Goldman: at a time when we’re eagerly awaiting the return of games like Silksong, the creators of This Is the Police 1+2 surprise us with a hand-animated action platformer set in a vast, hand-drawn archipelago. And not only that, its creators are inspired by classic fables with their own twist and some mechanics from classics like Ducktales to make their offering more interesting.
Space for Sale
- Plataformas: PC
- Date: Now available in Early Access
All the comparisons you can think of between Space for Sale and Pikmin after seeing its first trailer are more than justified: a tiny astronaut lands in a small big scenario and must investigate, adapt and gather resources. In fact, it even has a cooperative mode.
The three big differences are that we’re an intergalactic real estate agent this time around, the overall aesthetic, and, to no one’s surprise, the absence of Pikmins. And that, like it or not, changes everything. That said, if you really want to compare it, you’ll be happy to know that has demo on Steam and is now available in Early Access.
Way of the Hunter – Lintukoto Reserve
- Plataformas: PC, PS5 y Xbox Series S/X
- Date: Now available
Maybe Lintukoto Reserve It is a DLC for Way of the Hunterbut also a launch that coincides squarely with the THQ Nordic Digital Showcase itself. What less than to remember that the game from Nine Rocks Games adds, expands and shows off its views, its flora and its fauna?
Mysterious game from Tarsier Studios
- Platforms: Unannounced
- Date: Unannounced
Forewarned is forearmed. The creators of Little Nightmares and its sequel already hinted that they would have something prepared for THQ’s digital event, but what was shown has left us with more questions than answers. What we do know is that a “vision unlike anything you’ve seen before” is promised and that in about two weeks we will clear up the mystery: the next game from Tarsier Studios will be presented at the Opening Night Live of Gamescom on August 20.
