There's a long history of guest characters in fighting games. The difference in quality between guests is as huge as the list is long – and let's be honest, tradition is rough versus smooth. In Tekken alone, we’ve seen Gon from Masashi Tanaka’s comics (a farting dinosaur), Negan from The Walking Dead (a boring fart), and Akuma from Street Fighter (a Tough old fart).
But Tekken 8 didn't have any of that when it launched. Although there was quite a bit of content on disc when the game actually launched, producer Katsuhiro Harada and his development team didn't package any licensed characters. Turns out, that's because they left it all for later.

At The Game Awards 2024, Geoff Keighley hosted a big announcement that might make some fans happy… and others furious. So, any news? Clive Rosefeldt from Final Fantasy 16 will be coming to Tekken 8 as the last Season 1 DLC character. Why are people angry? Well, because they didn't expect someone so… new.
Over the past year or so, there has been so much clamor for Tifa in Final Fantasy 7 that even Harada himself has had to weigh in on the discussion. “We all know she's attractive and I understand that,” he Tweet About 10 months ago. “But so far we haven't decided anything about guest roles or anything like that.”
Fast forward to late 2024, and it appears Harada and Bandai Namco are indeed working with Square Enix on all things Final Fantasy… but the chips aren't quite where many fans want them to be. And the noise hasn't completely died down yet – just search the words “Tifa” and “Iron Fist” together on Twitter or BlueSky and you'll see what I'm talking about.
but, Oh, okay, right? She won't come. We're going to have to deal with Clive – but that's not necessarily a bad thing, is it? Noctis is a pretty nice addition to Tekken 7, although many do question why he's allowed to carry a sword (or several swords) into fist fights. That criticism is moot here, though, because Tekken 8 introduces Viktor—and boy, does he have a damn gun.
If you want to find out for yourself what's going on with Clive, maybe mentally weigh Tifa's meeting It's a better option after all, check out the trailer below.
This isn't the first time Bandai Namco has caused controversy with its Tekken 8 DLC plans. Back in October, following the release of Heihachi, the developer had to abandon plans to sell the veteran fighting game arena outside of the season pass as fans began boycotting the game and lowering its Steam rating.
Clive will appear in Tekken 8 xxx.
